This wonderful plaque or wall hanging was hand painted by me with over 20 years experience in selling painted slate in the Pittsburgh area and even through ABBEY PRESS. I collect the slate from roofers replacing out gorgeous old stately homes throughout the Pittsburgh area. I hand-cut each piece. I can make slate decorations for you, look at the items I have for sale and I can make the same item, even in multiples, larger or smaller. I can add your family name or saying if there is enough room. I don’t use stencils…all with my Pittsburgh handwriting! The largest slates are usually 12″ x 22″ if I have that size in stock. I hand paint with acrylics and finish the item with acrylic spray which will protect it for years in the inclement weather. Some people prefer to glue foam backing to parts of the back to protect it from breakage as hitting against a solid structure with wind can fracture it since it is possible for slate to have weak spots due to age and years of weather. Just don’t cover the entire back with foam, glue or spray paint of it will force the front paint to become unstable. It wants to breathe!
