The Pattern that I used to create this Gown was drafted from an original Pattern & Engraving that was featured in an 1887 issue of Harper’s Bazar Magazine. This Gown is in 4 pieces, which are the Bodice, the false Front, the Under Skirt & the Asymmetrical Over Skirt. The Bodice is Lined & it is Boned in the appropriate places. It closes at the center side front with Buttons. The front of this Bodice has a simulated Vest portion, which I have done a shirring technique. The Collar, the Cuffs, & the Revers (lapels) are made from coordinating Fabric & are trimmed with Appliques. The Left front has a pointed overlapping piece which is fastened with Buttons. There is a triangular opening at the top & a small space at the bottom in which the Vest is displayed. The Sleeves are long in length with Cuffs at the ends. They are trimmed with Appliques. The back of the Bodice has a small flirtatious tail. The Under Skirt is flat is the front with 3 Gores. The full width of the back is pleated & it is designed to accommodate a Bustle. The Waistband is 1 1/4 inches wide & it closes at the center back with a Hook & Bar. The LENGTH from the waist to the floor measures 00 inches, & it is slightly longer in the back. There is a 0 inch double hem. The CIRCUMFERENCE is 00 inches, which is set on a 1 1/4 inch wide waistband that closes at the center back with a Hook & Bar. The Over Skirt is an Asymmetrical front & back Drapery, which was especially popular in 1886 & 1887. The front Apron has vertical pleats at the waist on the Left hand side, & horizontal pleats on the Right hand side. The Back is the same, with the Vertical Pleats on the Left & the Horizontal Pleats on the Right. The Over Skirt closes on the Left side with a Hook & Bar fastener.
